I took the summer off from ordering new records for the distro and the shop, so I was especially psyched to start digging through the new wholesale lists today. There will certainly be lots of interesting titles coming in over the next few weeks. I'll try to post info on a few of those records on this blog. To start, here's a sample of Indian classical singer Abdul Karim Khan. Mississippi and Canary just reissued 10 ragas from a collection of 78"s recorded around 1934-35. The haunting quality of these old recordings is only magnified by Abdul Karim Khan's sublime, soulful performances. This is truly a heavy listen that transcends time and culture.

This is beautiful. Reminds me of being little and listening to my mom sing old songs from her fave bollywood flicks from her youth :)
